From your description, I would suppose you ordered a natural rubber mat. Typical of these mats is their roughened surface, which makes them the most grippy mats on the market. Usually, yogis appreciate a particularly grippy mat that is no thicker than 6 mm. With a thicker, not that grippy mat, I would assume you were actually looking for a fitness or gymnastics mat.
